Steps to apply

 Step 1

Apply to the University of Arizona through the Office of Admissions.

Step 2

Submit the following materials via the School of Music supplemental application:

  • Résume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Composition Portfolio
  • Three (3) pieces that are a representative cross-section of current work in various genres must be submitted. Audio recordings of submitted works should be sent (MIDI realizations are acceptable but live recordings are preferred)
  • Scores must be legible, clearly identified as to the title, composer, date of completion, etc.
  • Electroacoustic works may be submitted. Please include a score if possible.
  • Applicants may also submit other supporting materials (articles, reviews, multimedia projects, etc.)

Performance Audition (required)

Deadlines

Students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible during the year prior to attendance. The deadline for the fall semester is December 1 to be considered for available scholarship opportunities. First attendance during the fall semester is encouraged because of the sequencing of required music courses.

However, The Fred Fox School of Music does accept new music students into the spring semester. The deadline for both incoming and current UA students for the spring semester is October 1.

All incoming UArizona students are required to attend a mandatory New Student Orientation session prior to attending The Fred Fox School of Music. 

International Applicants

 International applicants whose primary language is not English, or who attended school in a non-English speaking country, regardless of citizenship, must prove English proficiency. Please read about English proficiency on the Admissions website.

Send the following materials to the Fred Fox School of Music via Acceptd:

  • Résume or Curriculum Vitae
  • Transcripts (GPA 3.0 minimum)
  • Statement of Purpose (accomplishments, career plans, and your reason for applying to our program)
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
  • Composition Portfolio
    1. Three (3) pieces that are a representative cross-section of current work in various genres must be submitted. Audio recordings of submitted works should be sent. (MIDI realizations are acceptable but live recordings are preferred.)

Deadlines

We request submission of all admissions materials for domestic student applications by no later than June 1 for fall admission, October 1 for spring admission, and March 1 for summer sessions.

The Fred Fox School of Music welcomes applications from international students. International student applications are due April 1 for fall admission, September 1 for spring admission, and February 1 for summer sessions.

Applicants who submit paperwork well in advance of the proposed starting date are most likely to avoid disappointment caused by unexpected delays in the receipt and acceptance of required documents.

All students, domestic and international, who wish to receive the fullest consideration for financial aid or scholarships should submit all materials by December 1 for admission the following fall.

International Applicants
